Is it Safe to Rent a Laptop?

Technology is everywhere these days and it seems that most people just expect it. Anytime you apply for a job, attend school, travel, have a downed computer, even just simple conversation is now carried over the internet. For some people in need of a laptop, the library computer or other public places that offer free use of computers can work fine. But what if you need to have a laptop on a more permanent bases, yet can't afford to buy one? You can now rent a laptop and not have to pay too much and use it for the exact time period you need without any hassle.

So, what sort of machine can you expect to be receiving? That mostly depends on the provider so its good to choose wisely and go with one that is reputable. You can search the yellow pages or the internet for laptop rentals in your area. Most of the equipment rented should be good quality brand name laptops, such as Dell, HP, Sony, Toshiba, and others. The equipment should come with several usb ports and a dvd drive along with plenty of memory.

Most reputable laptop rental companies have protocols and policies in place to cover reliability and privacy issues. Privacy is the main thing and you will want to make sure you cover with the rental company and that there is no chance of you seeing previous renters information or that after you are through with the laptop no one will see yours. Each rental laptop should be wiped clean of the previous renters information and restored to it’s default state. It is the job of the laptop rental company to update, clean, maintain and keep secure their rental computers.
When considering renting ask the rental company about this service and request a copy of their customer privacy policy. Although this should be done by the rental company itself, its also best to delete all information off your rental, especially any passwords or personal information saved.

Overall, is it safe to rent a laptop? I'd say yes, but do your research first, check your local area for reviews and recommendations, choose the right machine for yourself, and be sure to erase all personal data on the machine and finally don’t worry to much as most reputable laptop rental companies have policies in place to protect you.
